3/10/13 Wrap Up: CrossFit Open Week 1

-Written by KC

Brad in the midst of Open WOD 13.1 while TJ judges his workout.

I am so very PROUD of EVERYONE who just completed 13.1, the scores are staggering, I am continually amazed by this community. ALL MY FRIENDS ARE SUPERHEROS!!! So inspiring!

This week the box was BUZZING with excitement, and the smell of Tiger Balm, as our CrossFit Open registered competitors tackled Open WOD 13.1, see workout details at the bottom of this post. Everyone put so much heart into this WOD I literally teared up watching some of our athletes complete a workout that was very scary for some to face, and they did it with grace, power, and focus. Please check out ROSTER of athletes HERE and click on anyone of them to see their week 1 results. Again, as your coach I couldn't be prouder of all who are participating. Way to believe in yourself AllStars!

Here's a highlight of Brads 13.1 workout in the middle of 135# snatches, almost his bodyweight!

Anuhea's Right arm is getting so much stronger!!! Just look at it keep up with the left!

For those of you who don't know, our dear Anuhea, who is on staff at the gym, suffered a stoke when she was 11, during a gymnastics class, when a tumor in her heart came loose. She has the most inspiring story, personality and determination in the gym, to heal herself and gain full mobility of her right side, including her right hand. We are so very proud of her accomplishments!!! She keeps getting stronger and with her determination, she'll keep progressing and reach her goals. GO ANUHEA!

IMPORTANT INFO FOR REGISTERED ALLSTAR ATHLETES

  1. Do NOT wait till that last minute to do your workout! We perform this workout in ALL Friday classes so come then. If you need another time just show up to Wednesday night Barbell Club 6-8pm, or come to any class Thursday and we will accommodate you. OR contact me to perform it on Saturday, OR on Sunday during Olympic Weightlifting Club 11-1pm. We ran 4 heats of this wod today at Oly club, with the last person performing their workout just an hour before it needed to be submitted!!! So please try not to cut it so close and get it done early!
  2. You may submit more than one score if you want to re-do a workout. Simply withdraw your score, then resubmit the new one.
  3. YOU must enter your own score, and be responsible for keeping the information to submit. This is not anyone's job but yours. I will suggest taking a picture of your judges whiteboard with your phone when the workout is done, or submitting it from your phone right when you are done with your wod and recovering in the gym. The only thing our affiliate manager (KC) does is validate the score online, but you must submit the score yourself so don't forget to submit!

AllStar Athlete Darien Gee celebrates her new book!

I checkout out Darien's book signing on Saturday, at Bentley's in Waimea. This woman amazes me, not only has she gone Paleo and suits up for CrossFit class, she also has authored many bestselling books!!! Some have been pen named under Mia King, but she's written her most recent accomplishments with her name Darien Gee. You will find one of her New York Times bestselling books, 'Friendship Bread' in our new lending library (when i'm done with it that is!). GO DARIEN!

Yes we have monkeys in our gym.
