COVID-19 UPDATES 3/12/20

CFAS UPDATES regarding COVID_19 awareness inside the gym...

Mahalo for your continued feedback and suggestions surrounding the Coronavirus, COVID-19. I especially want to thank those who are taking this virus seriously. The World Health Organization declared the virus a 'pandemic' yesterday, which means it can no longer be considered 'controllable' and is now worldwide. We CAN however, take precautions to help slow it's spread and protect those around us, especially the elderly. The more responsible we all are, the slower it will spread, and the more resources there will be available for those who do get sick.

Retrieved from the World Health Organization:

“We are not at the mercy of this virus,” said the WHO Director-General at the 9 March media briefing.

All countries must aim to stop transmission and prevent the spread of COVID-19, whether they face no cases, sporadic cases, clusters or community transmission.

“Let hope be the antidote to fear.

Let solidarity be the antidote to blame.

Let our shared humanity be the antidote to our shared threat"

Some additional concerns have come in to me from members, and when I said we will do all we can to help stop the spread and create the safest environment possible I meant it.
Here are some additional measures we are taking, which will change the cleaning of equipment in the gym effective tomorrow, this Friday March 13th.
All equipment shall be cleaned with the disposable towels provided. In order not to 'cross-contaminate' please use 1 wipe as a time. Dampen the surface and allow to sit for alcohol up to 45 seconds, for other cleaners up to 3-6 minutes. I know it's not always possible to wait this long, but please try to let the cleaning fluid sit for longer than usual.
KUPUNA class will be cancelled next week March 19th. We will monitor and re-evaluate on a weekly basis the safety of continuing the class alongside the care home we collaborate with, Ho'onani Care Home and Day Center.
Also keep in mind that supplies are getting more and more difficult to acquire off the store shelves, including on Amazon. Isopropyl Alcohol, hand sanitizer, and certain cleaning products are now sold out and currently unavailable. I do have enough supply in the gym to last at least 2 weeks, maybe more. DO NOT OVER USE TOWELS OR CLEANER. Use just enough. That way we can help the products last, in case this pandemic in ongoing and supplies continue to be harder to acquire.

TRAVEL SMART IF AT ALL!

Rachel, (a 5am client at CFAS) recently traveled to France and is currently abroad. I've been in contact with her. She will be allowed to 're-enter' the United States but she will be SELF QUARANTINING at home for 10 days upon her return. She has decided this on her own, that she will not come to the gym for 10 days to be safe not to infect others. PLESAE USE RACHEL'S RESPONSIBLE EXAMPLE OF WHAT TO DO IF YOU TRAVEL TO PLACES WITH COVID-19! BE RESPONSIBLE and stay home for a week or so to self quarantine and make sure you're not sick or spreading in the gym or our community. You can still spread the disease even if you show no symptoms. The World Health Organization suggests a 14 day self quarantine period, and some research suggests up to 5 days if enough for the virus to express symptoms in those who have contracted the virus. If you feel sick please STAY HOME. If you travel to areas with the virus PLEASE STAY HOME FOR 5-10 DAYS. This is not mandatory, it is recommended as a way to be responsible to those in your community. You may TEXT KC 808-357-7851 to put your membership on hold if needed.
Also be advised, if the government of public health agencies declare that the public MUST self quarantine and stay home, then that is what we MUST do. We will cross that bridge when we get there. If in the extreme case that you are not allowed to leave your home due to government restrictions, we shall consider at home workouts we can email or live stream if needed. We will continue to monitor in the coming weeks to find solutions and continue to put everyones health top of mind!
