COVID-19 Letter to Members

Aloha,

In this fluid, and ever-changing world it is critical for me to stay calm, focused, engaged, active, and accountable. Having a daily routine which includes my daily workout, planning & preparing food, keeping up with work requirements and taking care of kids at home is new and challenging for me and for most of us! (OK maybe not Iris but she’s unique:) Taking care of ourselves is often last on the list. At CrossFit AllStar we believe that the better you take care of yourself, the better you can take care of others and all the tasks that demand your attention during this critical time! We are here to help.

Complying with Governor Ige’s Proclamation that all gyms and fitness centers remain closed to the public has presented a unique challenge to our mission of providing the most effective method of fitness imaginable.  However, in the true Crossfit AllStar spirit, we’ve moved swiftly to adapt to this new challenge with new plans, both short and long term, with your health, and that of our community, in mind.  In short, we’re not sitting on our okoles and gaining the quarantine 15!

Here are just some of the solutions we’ve come up with over the past 2 weeks:

  •  Loaning equipment to members to use at home (a first!)
  •  Providing “open gym” time to limited number of members at a time in order to comply with social distancing (until this was no longer allowed)
  •  SugarWOD online platform:  delivering daily WODs, digital whiteboard for tracking results and scores, archiving for future reference and storing your 1RMs, a great digital CrossFit experience to help keep members engaged in the AllStar community with “fist bumps and comments”. Find a quick reference guide SugarWOD Cheat Sheet we created HERE.
  •  Today we rolled out ZOOM, a video meeting platform which will be a key feature in the coming weeks and months for coached classes.

While all of this has been much more work than shuttering the doors, we believe in doing the best we can for our members.  We’re investing more in programming and remote coaching delivery, using online tools and continually educating ourselves in their use.  We’re rapidly ramping up the learning curve to make this experience better every day!

We’re excited to see where this sudden turn of events takes us and we want you along for the journey. Being isolated and alone isn’t in our DNA, we are tribes' people, wired to be engaged with one another.  While we aren't available do this in person at the moment, we hope to offer you the next best thing.

During this hiatus, until we are allowed to reopen the gym’s physical location, here are the services we’re offering to keep members on track at home.

  • *ZOOM classes in ‘real time’, directed by your (team?) coach, visual instruction, question & answer, a WOD clock, verbal encouragement, motivation, and community engagement and announcements.
  • *Remote Private Video Coaching: Send KC your videos of any CF movement and receive feedback. (Text works best for me, I can use email if preferred.) Keep the video short in length, you may need to 'crop' it so you can send it with no hiccups.
  • *Private one-to-one meetings: 1x 20minute private one-to-one meeting with me, KC Stallsmith, to work on any fitness or personal goal
  • *Equipment Gear Loans: Equipment loans are for active members only, for use only by the member signing for it, and not to be shared with friends, family, or any non-paying member to use.  We have a lot invested in our equipment and trust in you to honor these rules.
  • *Paying married couples with active memberships sharing the same equipment who want to SAVE WITH A MARRIED DISCOUNT contact KC for details.

What we ask of you in return

The economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic will no doubt impact all of us and put a strain on small businesses like CrossFit AllStar. We need our most powerful and committed members to stay with us during this fight. Our goal is to have a gym to come back to after this is all over, and we hope you do also look forward to that day.

We humbly ask you to keep your membership in place if possible. If you are suffering economic hardship, you may put your membership on ‘Hold’. Please adhere to our ‘hold’ policy. 2 weeks notice is required, you may ‘hold’ membership for 2 weeks and up to 3 months. We will need the starting date, and ending date of the hold request in order to place it in our Zen Planner system.

As always, we are open to your suggestions and feedback.

We will get through all this together, stronger than ever and I am here for you, thank you for being there for me.

With Gratitude,

KC Stallsmith
