7/20/20...7 Week Check-in: Change is the only constant

Dear AllStars:

It is with deep and sincere appreciation for our CFAS community and staff that I am sending this communication today. We are heading into our 7th week after 're-opening' in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, and I'd like to take this time to reflect and review how far we've come, and how we're moving forward and adapting to the future. 2020 has brought us so MUCH and change truly appears to be the only constant. In case you were not aware, we do have some  (1-5) COVID-19 cases in Waimea at this time (see the county dashboard at https://health.hawaii.gov/coronavirusdisease2019/what-you-should-know/current-situation-in-hawaii/), and from the doctors I've talked to, it is because people have learned to 'let their guard down'. The cases are now isolated and at home, so we hope that no further community spread will occur. This is not a reason to get panicked with fear, nor a reason to feel overly confident (because our number are still pretty low). You CAN still go about your awesome life, and live smart and with vitality through this while contributing to the safety of our community. STAYING HEALTHY in mind, body, and spirit will help us all get through this! We want you back at the gym, and we want to reassure you we are doing it the safest way possible, and we ask you to be on board with us.

With that, you may have noticed all the changes we've done within the gym to help keep you safe, including some new additions highlighted below:

  • We've deep cleaned the entire gym — every surface and every piece of equipment has been cleaned and disinfected and continues to be, daily.
  • We are limiting class size. Classes now have a maximum of 12 people for CrossFit class. We will allow an additional up to 4 persons to take an ERG outside safely in the back (close to the building out of the traffic lane). We haven't yet had to turn anyone away, class size has been as reasonable as can be.
  • All members sign up on Zen Planner Member App to reserve a space. This has provided us with an 'hand free' approach managing who can get a 'space' and how to update your own accounts from your Zen Planner profile (you can update your credit cards and information from your own computer or mobile device)
  • We have plenty of disinfecting and cleaning supplies so you can easily clean all the equipment you use. We're using alcohol Hand Sanitizer from Kuleana Rum, Lysol concentrate, and anti-viral wet wipes. It took us a while to get into the right routine (how much, what to use on which equipment) but we have started to feel a good routine with cleaning.
  • We are giving a 15 minute buffer between classes, so you have time to clean up and leave before the next class starts.
  • We will have social distancing signage to assist you with remembering to stay 6' apart in and out of the gym if from different families.
  • We’ve marked spots on the gym floor to help you keep your distance while working out. Please try to keep this same distance from your fellow members while you’re in the gym.
  • We will take your temperature upon arrival for class. Anything above 99.5 is something we may ask you to go home and visit your doctor (this guidance was given to us by our local helathcare practitioners).
  • Masks will be encouraged while waiting for your class outside, while entering, and exiting. KEEP YOUR MASK WITH YOU on the athlete floor, but it will not be required while you workout. We want you to be able to breathe! STARTING THIS WEEK we will encourage you to wear a mask when you are outside of your workout box before and after the workout...that means please wear a mask when you go to use the restroom, and when you are putting away your gear at the end of class. This is a small change, in an effort to help reduce your risk of spreading this disease.
  • Our coaches clean the gym floor throughout the day with Lysol (kills 99% of viruses). If you have a sensitivity to Lysol vapor we are happy to wait until you exit the gym to spray your workout space, just let us know.
  • You have hand sanitizer to use upon entry and exit.
  • We have new techniques we're trying out to test the air AND encourage more air flow in the gym, without 'pushing' air around, creating more of a 'vacuum' similar to a paint booth. There will be a fan SUCKING air OUT the back door this week as we run our tests.
  • Kupuna classes cancelled for now for our most vulnerable populations 80 years and up.
  • To help you make a safe and gradual return, we created a 100 day email series that will give you the information and motivation you need to return to your former capacity steadily and safely.

MASKS & SOCIAL DISTANCING

You will also notice that 'MASK WEARING' information has changed. We are staying as up to date as possible with CDC recommendations, and the results of the latest research regarding masks. This virus is NEW, and research is constantly being updated, so our protocols update right along with it in order to help keep you SAFE. Masks (along with social distancing and hand washing) have become our best offensive move against he spread of the virus, and to help defend ourselves from contracting it. I would be leading everyone at a disadvantage if I didn't recognize this basic information. Although I personally do not enjoy wearing a mask, I am able enjoy helping do my part to keep our community safe. We are doing our best with the information that is available to us at this time. Please respect our desire to want to keep others safe by encouraging you to wear your mask anytime you are out of your workout box, unless your are actively PERFORMING the workout.  Be a little more mindful when running, your workout score shall remain less of a priority than following pandemic guidelines. See above. Mahalo for supporting your gym leadership and coaching staff as we continue to adapt to safety measures.

Things to remember:

  • The KIDS AREA will be closed for now (at least for the next couple of weeks). Kids may sit outside if they can self manage.
  • Please remember 'HOLD requests' must be done in writing TEXT preferred or email with a follow up TEXT to KC 808-357-7851. We will NOT automatically place your membership on hold if you're not attending
  • We will continue to use SugarWOD and COMPTRAIN programming for class workouts. We will not add in extra strength training for now (some is included in CompTrain), to keep things simple and allow us time to create a new routine. Extra strength work can be done during Open Gym times if you want to incorporate that.
  • Members with ACTIVE memberships will still be granted access to SugarWOD and we encourage you to look at the workout and prep notes the night before so you can be prepared. Current members on HOLD will still have access to SugarWOD.
  • ZOOM classes are cancelled. I do have a couple PRIVATE clients still doing 'one-on-one' personal training with me if you are interested or know someone who needs this service please pass along my information, additional fees apply.
  • Members who cancel or do not renew their memberships will be removed from SugarWOD. Mahalo for your understanding!
  • Class times with little or no attendance may be removed so KEEP ATTENDING if you want to keep classed on the schedule.
TUESDAY AND THURSDAY 5:45PM CLASS IS CANCELLED FOR NOW
(Karen we can bring it back for you in the future if you need!!!) Covid has changed everything, and once the virus in under control I do see a world where we will again have evening classes and special programs like 'New You' and 'Barbell'. Right now, we're adapting, and grateful for all the we have, all that we are, and we are not needing to push passed that. We are all awesome and doing our best!
See you soon! Mahalo for all your flexibility as we learn, grow, and develop together through this special time!
Remember to give yourself a 'put up' today:)
With appreciation,
KC Stallsmith and the CFAS Staff
