Getting out of the Box!

Decided to go get coffee the funnest way possible today. Not in the car, not on bikes, on skateboards. Living in town, weather is beautiful, why not? After we had our drinks and breakfast, we went to the skatepark and had it to ourselves. Made it back home, and no one fell or got hurt in the hour and a half session. Not bad for a family of 4 ranging from 8 to 39 years old.

Dropped the kids off at their friends in the forest in Ahualoa. Then showed up at Oly Club. We warmed up, hit Snatch and the Clean and Jerk for an hour. we hadnt programmed the second hour. I walked up to the white board and wrote:

Run 5k

20 burpees at keck observatory office

20 pull-ups at Waimea community park

50 air squats at Merrimans

hit pullups and burpees on the way back.

It was a newer version of the old 5am workouts KC, our old neighbor Dylan and I used to do in Honokaa at 5am. Run for a mile, someone in the group would call out reps and movement. 50 bench dips at the Honokaa Library benches, 25 Pullups at the Honokaa Track. etc. we would just loop around town CrossFitting at random spots.

Well... on this WOD after I hit my 50 Squats, I looked up the steep Opelo road and was called to lead the pack to the top. At the top, a dead end, we ducked the barbed wire, cut through some pasture and came over a rise where Waimea was revealed in all it's glory! Shoots! No cameras. We dropped down to a forest between neighborhoods, slipped inside and followed a smoky trail. Everything got more and more Blair-Witchy until we popped out on a manicured driveway. We found our way back to the park hit our pull-ups. Raced to Keck, hit our last 20 Burpees in the shade of a tree on the grass. Then raced back to the box, where KC and I were neck and neck sprinting to the front door. I made it to the front door, rushed inside and checked the WOD clock, 52:08! The others came in close behind as we rested sweating on the cool concrete. That was a good old-fashioned test of GPP, general physical preparedness. Everyone rocked it. Showers and the Couches were calling, so we went our seperate ways. Dont miss Sunday Oly Club, you never know what you'll get. But its guaranteed to be 2 hours of work, learning and pleasurable Pain!
